This past week's excitement at Payton has been a rather controversial blog entry posted by a student on her weblog. Quite a few students at Payton have weblogs at a site called Xanga.com which provides free blogs, and a variety of other community features (centered around the blogs they offer).

Last week, a student posted views on gay marriage and slavery which were extremely hurtful to many who read them. On Friday, CPS Legal paid a visit to try and calm down the angry students who wanted some sort of disciplinary action to be taken. The 1st amendment of course protects the person who posted these controversial views.

The Chicago Sun-Times picked up this story, and it was on the frontpage of their metro section today (Sunday): http://www.suntimes.com/output/education/cst-nws-payton14.html.

Moral of this story - think before you type.
